Tribulation
The Deviance
Tribulation & Distress is the second album of literary rock from The Deviance, this time based on Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian, or the Evening Redness in the West. On their second album of literary rock, The Deviance revisits the same format as their eponymous release based on Golding's Lord of the Flies: they divided the album into chapters and the songs follow the plot of the book by closely interpreting key passages.
The project took just under a year and tracks were recorded in a variety of locations: many of them were recorded as live-offs-the-floor in the Drinking Cap Studio; some songs had layers added at Raoul's in Hamilton, Ontario; a few songs were recorded in Guelph, Ontario; and the bulk of the vocals were recorded at Jesse's bedroom studio in Toronto. Unlike the first album, which was recorded in a couple weeks, the band tried to use time to their advantage and build the sound they wanted.
